Schedule Change: IceHogs Open Season Against Chicago Wolves
The Rockford IceHogs were set to take on the Cleveland Monsters in a back-to-back series this weekend but, due to COVID-related issues, Cleveland will not be making the trip. Instead, the Chicago Wolves are coming to town Saturday afternoon. The puck drops on the 2020-21 Rockford IceHogs season on Saturday, February 6, at 3:00 pm CST.
Players to Watch: CHI vs CAR (2/4/21)
The Chicago Blackhawks faceoff against the Carolina Hurricanes again tonight. I hope to see a game as fun and close as Tuesday was. Carolina is a great team. If the Blackhawks show that they can keep up with them, that’s a good sign for the progression of this roster.
Rockford IceHogs Preview: 2020-21 Season & February Schedule
The time has finally come. The Rockford IceHogs kick off their 2020-21 season this Friday, February 5, at 6:00 pm CST against the Cleveland Monsters.
Meet Your New IceHog: Wyatt Kalynuk
The Chicago Blackhawks announced today that they’ve assigned Wyatt Kalynuk (23) from the Taxi Squad to the Rockford IceHogs. They recalled Madison Bowey to the Taxi Squad in his place.
Players to Watch: CHI vs CAR (2/2/21)
After splitting the series 1-1 with the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Chicago Blackhawks are now set to take on a new opponent - the Carolina Hurricanes. Tuesday night’s matchup at the United Center should be an interesting one to watch.
IceHogs 2021 Training Camp: Forwards
The Rockford IceHogs have a roster full of new players for the 2020-21 season. There are a few returning players, but the youth movement is on. I took a look at the forwards on the Training Camp roster to get an idea of what we may see on the ice.
Players to Watch: CHI vs CBJ (1/31/21)
It’s a Blackhawks gameday! Sunday night features the second of 2 games in the series against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Blackhawks lost the first one, so look for them to be eager for a bounce back game tonight.
Meet Your New IceHog: Madison Bowey
Madison Bowey is a 25 year old right-handed defensemen. He was originally a 2013 2nd round draft pick of the Washington Capitals. He played parts of 2 seasons with the Capitals before heading over to the Detroit Red Wings. He was, most recently, on a PTO with the San Diego Gulls until the Blackhawks put pen to paper and brought him back to the Midwest.
Players to Watch: CHI vs CBJ (1/29/21)
The Chicago Blackhawks head back home to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets in the next 2-game series. The two teams are heading into Friday night’s game after two straight overtime games.
Players to Watch: CHI vs NSH (1/27/21)
Moving the focus to tonight’s matchup, the Blackhawks can’t look much worse than they did. I fully expect them to come out with a better effort. Nashville was coming off of two losses and the Hawks were coming off of two wins. Maybe the playing field has evened out and we will get to watch a good game. We can only hope.
IceHogs 2021 Training Camp: Defense
The Rockford IceHogs kicked off Training Camp this week. They play their one and only preseason game this afternoon when they take on the Chicago Wolves (of course) in Hoffman Estates. I already took a good at the IceHogs goaltenders on the Training Camp roster. Now, let’s look at the defensemen. There are some familiar names on this list, and some young kids. They’ve got a good mix this season.
Players to Watch: CHI vs NSH (1/26/21)
I wish I could predict what we’ll see coming from Nashville. But, even when they have down seasons or stretches, they seem to always pick it up a notch against the Blackhawks. I have a nagging feeling that the season trends won’t matter much going into this 2 game series. SO, let’s just take a look at my three players to watch.
IceHogs 2021 Training Camp: Goaltenders
Let’s take a look at the goaltenders attending IceHogs Training Camp. There are four guys - three of which were expected. One was a rather big surprise, but the fan reaction, so far, is very positive. The only returning goaltender from the 2019-20 season is Matt Tomkins. With Collin Delia and Kevin Lankinen up with the Blackhawks, the IceHogs crease is up for grabs. Who will take it?
Players to Watch: CHI vs DET (1/22/21)
Do you smell that? That’s the smell of some crisp, midwestern air. The Chicago Blackhawks are finally back from Florida, a trip that treated them horribly, and are set to take on the Detroit Red Wings tonight at 7:00 pm CST (NBCSCH).
Three Players to Watch: CHI vs FLA (1/19/21)
Coming off of a series against the best team in the league, I assumed that the Blackhawks would look better against the Florida Panthers. They’re a good team, but they’re no Tampa Bay Lightning. I was very naive to go into Sunday’s game with that thought process. Somehow, they managed to look worse for extended stretches of the game.
Players to Watch: CHI vs FLA (1/17/21)
The next two game series for the Blackhawks is in Sunrise, Florida as they face the Panthers. Both teams are in a unique spot heading into Sunday night. The Blackhawks are coming off of a series where they lost both games but seemed to get better as it went on. The Florida Panthers will be playing their first game.
Three Players to Watch: CHI vs TBL
The first game of the season didn’t look great for the Blackhawks. They actually started the game looking like the better team. Once Tampa scored their first goal, that completely went out the window. If the Hawks are going to have a different outcome in tonight’s game, a lot of players will have to up their game.
Chicago Blackhawks: Players To Watch
The Blackhawks kick off their 2020-21 season on opening night. We don’t have to wait a day or two to see them. For some fans, that’s a great thing. I know that others are dreading the season because it isn’t looking like it’ll be a good one. Sure, I’ll agree with you that the Blackhawks won’t have a great season record-wise. But, There are some very positive things to look forward to heading into this season.
Blackhawks Preview: January Schedule
With the shortened season, there is a pretty condensed schedule. Teams are only playing opponents within their division and you see a lot of opponents twice in a row to cut down on travel. It’s going to be a very strange season. So let’s take a look at what January looks like for the Chicago Blackhawks.
What Is A Taxi Squad?
In addition to a team normal roster, typically consisting of around 23 players, NHL squads will have Taxi Squads this year. I have heard this term thrown around for months now with a brief understanding of what it meant. Now that the season is actually on the horizon (like, starting tomorrow) I needed to figure out exactly how they were going to work.
